Mental Health Clinician

We’re seeking an experienced Mental Health Clinician to join a supportive Acute Care Team in Mt Isa, North West Queensland for a short-term locum contract. This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a dynamic regional mental health service, supporting individuals and families experiencing moderate to severe mental health presentations while working alongside a collaborative multidisciplinary team.

The Role

You’ll be joining the Acute Care Service, supporting a broad range of presentations across intake, assessment, intervention, and care coordination. The service operates 7 days per week from 7:00am – 11:00pm, with shift work across a rotating roster.

Your role will include:

• Conducting mental health assessments, intake, and triage
  • Delivering therapeutic interventions and evidence-based support
  • Providing case management and care coordination to support continuity of care
  • Working closely with families, carers, and multidisciplinary teams to promote recovery outcomes
  • Supporting clients experiencing acute and complex mental health presentations
  • Maintaining accurate clinical documentation

About You

We’re looking for a clinician who is confident working in acute mental health and enjoys the challenge and reward that comes with regional healthcare.

You will have:

• Qualification as a Social Worker or Psychologist
• Relevant registration/membership (AHPRA, AASW or eligibility)
• Experience within acute mental health, triage, assessment, crisis support, or case management
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with clients, families, and multidisciplinary teams
• A flexible and adaptable approach to working in regional settings
• Previous experience working within Queensland Health, including exposure to CIMHA, will be highly regarded
